This Pryme Thyme Orzo Pasta Salad is bright, fresh, and easy to pull together for weeknight meals or summer gatherings. Tender orzo is tossed in a light vinaigrette made with olive oil, honey, maple syrup, Dijon mustard, and Tasty Tin Pryme Thyme, creating a balanced dressing with herbaceous flavor and natural citrus notes from the thyme.
When paired with sautéed shrimp, this also works beautifully as an orzo pasta salad with shrimp, perfect for light dinners or warm-weather entertaining. But add your favorite cooked protein like scallops, chicken, or tofu to turn it into a complete meal. It’s just as good served chilled as it is at room temperature, making it a great option for picnics, potlucks, and quick lunches.
Ingredients
-
1 cup uncooked orzo pasta (yields ~2 to 2½ cups cooked)
-
1 tbsp olive oil
-
1 tbsp white wine vinegar (balsamic vinegar can work as well)
-
½ tbsp honey
-
½ tbsp maple syrup
-
2–3 tsp Pryme Thyme blend
-
1 tsp dijon mustard
-
¼ tsp chopped basil (fresh or dried)
-
Salt & black pepper, to taste
-
1 cup cooked shrimp (or scallops, chicken or tofu)
Directions
Boil orzo in salted water per package directions; drain and let cool.
In a large bowl, mix olive oil, lemon juice (or vinegar/cooking wine), honey, maple syrup, Pryme Thyme blend, mustard, and basil.
Whisk well to combine into a dressing.
Toss the cooked orzo in the dressing until evenly coated.
Taste and adjust seasoning; add more Pryme Thyme or acid if you like a stronger flavor.
Serve chilled or at room temperature.
Mix in protein of your choice. Shrimp, scallops, cut up chicken, or even tofu can work.
Recipe Note
Make it ahead:
This pasta salad can be made several hours in advance. If preparing ahead, reserve a small splash of olive oil or vinegar to stir in before serving to refresh the dressing.
Protein options:
We often use sautéed shrimp, but scallops, grilled chicken, or tofu work beautifully with the flavors in Pryme Thyme.
Flavor tip:
Pryme Thyme is garlic-forward with natural citrus notes from thyme, which helps brighten the vinaigrette without needing extra lemon juice.
Serving ideas:
Serve alongside grilled vegetables, seafood, or roasted chicken, or pack it for an easy lunch.
